This is absolutely ridiculous :O poor american kids :(

and Nessie, The Loch Ness Monster, is in fact named and "legally" protected under the Protection of Animals Act!!! Seriously.....

Sorry if i´m going off topic, but Nessie isn't the only one, there is actually one such "monster" in Sweden that's protected as well. however, the main reason for their "protection" is that people are obsessing too much over trying to prove they exist and catch them, they are disturbing the lakes. So it's there to stop the people from acting irrationally and harming the ecosystem rather than protect something that isn't there :P

You can get them here in Chicago at Christmas time. I buy so many and hoard them, lol.

I've seen generic chocolate eggs with toy prizes inside being sold at the grocery store. It's hard for me to believe they are illegal.

DARN IT SEND ME SOME I WANTS THEM !!!

Are they illegal? o_O Because I know a local store that sells them year round by the carton-full lol

I've brought them into the country several times myself and never had any issue. I love those eggs! I like the bueno better though.

It's not just the fact it's a choking hazard. There were also rules against having toys inside food. Also it didn't meet small parts requirement. It was too small.

The woman was fined 300.00. Not 3000.

I can understand that if the government didn't pay attention to the law they set, they'd be flooded with parents asking them to uphold it.

Of course there's always some that will sneak on by.

I has no they were illegal! XD I have a store right near me that always has them in stock!
Although it is pretty sad that that poor kid swallowed on of those toys. DX Their parents should've been paying attention!

Four children died.  It's a shame.  The kid might've grabbed the egg before the parent knew or..

Wow, I didn't know they were banned. I used to have them when we went to visit my great-grandfather in Wisconsin. I guess maybe he had some hoarded or sent from Germany or something :/ that's too bad, I used to love them as a kid.

Seriously? The fact that they're "illegal" makes me want them even more. xD Now I'll have to keep my eyes peeled in case I find anything like them.

tl;dr;

One possibility is of course to crack the eggs open, send the junk in one bag and the chocolates in other. The eggs can be cracked quite nicely open. Of course if it is illegal to import anything that says "Kinder Surprise" then you'd need to repack them too. And if they don't arrive, sue the customs or something.

In other news: Don't dry your cat in a microwave oven. Hot coffee is hot. Sharp things are sharp etc. In some countries it's the manufacturer's fault that some of the users of their products are missing a few screws.

The hot coffee lawsuit was justified really..They had made it severely hot.

There is an article about the eggs in Canada, the us ban and mention of the deaths.

The woman in question wasn't actually fined. She was told it -could- result in a fine: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/story/2011/01/10/man-kinder-surprise-border.html

Yes they are technically illegal in the US. Yes children have died, at least according to this article: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Mother+calls+for+ban+after+girl+chokes+on+Kinder+egg.-a060703736

But the deaths have been few and faw between and in reality they shouldn't be banned in the us -shrugs-

Edit: yes the coffee lawsuit was indeed warranted, the woman had to have skin grafts her burns were so bad!
