Washing a pony with "fading pink" hair.
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:55:58 AM »
I recently acquired a baby Cotton Candy who's hair is still a lovely pink.
She's a tad grimy though, and I'd love to give her a Vanish Oxi Action bath like I've done with several ponies before, but I don't know if that might fade her pink hair?

I've not had any hair fading due to an oxi-bath before, but I know that shade of pink is very prone to fading issues.
Can anyone tell me if washing her with Vanish Oxi Action might damage the pink color of her hair?

In case it is important. I don't tend to actually boil ponies in the solution.
I boil water, poor it into a bucket with some Qxi Action and then add the pony and let it sit for a while.

I don't think an Oxy bath will fade her hair, but it will make her hair stiff/frizzy.

I have had that problem with many ponies after their baths.

 Best of luck to you!

I think the sun is the main thing you have to be concerned with fading the hair.

Thank you both, baby Cotton Candy will soon get a nice visit to the spa then. ^^
I'll just keep an eye on that hair just in case.

I've never had issues with fading hair and oxiclean so I think you should be ok :)

The Oxy bath won't fade her hair but like kittybethy said, it will be preeeeetty dry and/or frizzy. Be sure to wash her hair with some dish soap to get all the oxy off and leave conditioner in her hair for a while if it's too bad.

Yes I've noticed that before with other ponies I've given a bath.
Rinsing and washing the hair well and a good round of conditioner or two have always fixed it for me until so far, so I'll have the shampoo and conditioner on stand-by. ;)

Thank you all!
Cotton Candy's bath went fine just now. If anything her hair almost seems slightly ..pinker?
Either there was more dirt in her hair then I thought or Vanish Oxi Action is made of magic. :p
(Or it's just my eyes playing tricks on me. That could be it too. >>)

I had that happen with my Quackers. Her hair was pretty dirty and after the boil her hair seemed much brighter. Glad it went well for you! :D

That's great! Dirty hair can dull the colours alot.

Sounds like she is all clean and happy now!

When I clean ponies with oxy.. I just don't soak them. Well.. unless they are getting an inside and out cleaning. I just get a rag (usually an old sock, they are scrubby on the inside) and dip it in the oxy solution and scrub with that.
