what is up with this bait!
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:17:58 AM »
I found this reeeealy baity pony in salvation army yesterday, I think it was a calling actually, because I had been looking for an inspiring pose for a custom and was hitting a block, I go in and this was the only pony they had (they usually have none) anyway so i buy it, go home and start prepping it as usual.

But I start to notice some odd things, first of all its roots so few and far apart, then its ears looked odd o.O

I started thinking it was a fakie despite the my little pony stamp on its foot xD so i looked it up, and it is precious gem. was it normal for gem ponies to have unusual ears? xD I never noticed before because i usually avoid getting baits with any sort of raised symbol, but i have a star dasher whos ears are also slightly different now that iv noticed, but the hair is rooted normally.

despite her oddities I sort of like her xD and look forward to using her, her ears kinda remind me of G1 ears, how they faced out and were just kinda shapeless points :p and adding more holes for roots is super easy.

The only explanation I can think of is the simplest, not all ponies were posed the same, and so their molds were different. This goes for their heads too. Their ears were angled differently from other poses. So probably you just got a pony in a different pose. That would be my guess without going and ruffling through my pony boxes to double check :silly:  As for the root crazyness, thats just Hasbro being hasbro with their QC fail. Through I rather like having them a little farther apart. Gives you room to make your own plug holes if you want. ^_^

The plug holes are weird, but I don't put anything past Hasbros QC.  Thats the ticked off pony head, they all have weird ears.

haha I should have guessed that xD "ticked off" really is what I think with her ears being all slanted back like that.

Was this the girl?  If so, her tossled hair *could* explain the sparse plugs.

yes I did look her up as precious gem, and I had thought about that, as the reason to her roots, but still xD so few! even with hair she looked like she had canyon sized spaces between each one, maybe im just picky, i like ponies to have LOTS of hair, and when I make a custom I try to fill in any gaps lol

I have a couple of Precious Gem baits that are pre-prepped and they have the exact same plug configuration.  You could always take a tack/pin and add more plug holes in.  :)

Lol, that's exactly how she looks, too!  Yeah, that head mold has ears that are turned out, instead of the usual foreward.  I've had ponies with plug holes like that, too - mostly Puzzlemint.
