Help whitening my Gingerbread
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:18:07 PM »
I have a  TE Gingerbread who has turned this yellowish brown kind of color over the years. She's one of my favorite ponies so I don't want to do anything to mess her up. I've heard of bleach bathes and sunfading but I've got some questions.

If I bleach her, how do I keep her symbols and eyes from getting messed up? Has anyone done this before?

If I sunfade her, do I just put sunscreen over the symbols and eyes to keep them from messing up? Does the sunscreen mess with twinkle eyes or symbols? Any ideas?

Any other suggestions are wanted! Thanks everypony!

I would sunfade her. I would cover the eyes, the hair and the symbols.

 It will work!

i do a LOT of sunfading and ive never heard of using sunscreen.. i wouldnt risk it.
heres pics of how I sunfade
use foil and painters tape.
then put them in a sunny window on a mirror
usually takes about 4-6 weeks for maximum effect. all depends of course on the weather in your area.
I live in southern california so i get a ton of sun ^_^

i loooove sunfading!!!! only hard part is PATIENCE!!
i sunfade pretty much every white pony i buy because they can ALWAYS be whiter!!
and now i loooove flat ironing too!! ^_^

one more tip: do NOT put tape on glitter symbols! it will remove the glitter when you take off the tape. What I do is flip the tape over to the non-sticky side and tape over it. so basically you have 2 layers of tape, but the sticky part never touches the glitter
(hopefully that makes sence)

BTW if anypony lives in a gloomy area SEND ME YOUR PONIES!!
Ill sunfade them for you ^_^

heres my biggest sunfading sucess story...

uh-may-zing!

I wonder if sunfading would help the discoloration on my quackers.  I don't want to call it cancer... I'll have to take a pic tomorrow and show what I mean.

FYI: Bleach won't do a thing to the pony. Nor will it lighten/fade/mess up the symbols or hair. It just makes the hair more coarse and stinky. Bleach works soley on natural fibers. Ever try to bleach an acrylic/polyester or otherwise synthetic garment to get a stain out? Same thing with ponies. It's all plastic! lol!

Sunfading works best for white ponies!  I wish I had some good before and after pictures of the ponies I've sunfaded.

I also wrote a tutorial awhile back on the old arena about painting over the symbols with white acylic craft paint (the cheap stuff) as an alternative to using tape.  It will come off simply with some 70% rubbing alcohol and not effect the symbols. You can also oxy-clean bath it and it takes the craft paint right off with little effort! Except I wouldn't do it on glitter symbols, and I'm not sure about nirvana ponies, I'd hesitate on them too lol. :)  I actually used good liquetex acrlyic paint in yellow on my Raincurl and it worked really well. Just was a PAIN to get off... but no paint was effected!

Great results!!!

Don't use sunscreen on the paint, as it will take the paint off.

Don't sunfade Starshine or Cherry Treats, they sunburn.
Depending on how bad the cancer is the pony may sunburn.

This is before sunfading (thought her body would lighten up)

AFTER sunfading:

Sunburn hurts, if your Gingerbread even remotely looks the way Starshine originally did I would suggest to not sunfade.

Hmmm Gingerbread has some cancer marks on one side...now I'm scared she will get sunburned!!! lol

So what do you guys think I should do to get her more white? How long did you leave yours before she burned, mlp4me?
