My name is Wendy, and I have a pony problem.
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:30:52 PM »
Hey all!  This is ichigo_pinkchan from the Trading Post.  I grew up with the later G1 ponies in the early 90s, got into G1 and G3 collecting my senior year of high school early 2006, took a break in college, and got rather into G4s once the new show was announced.

Maybe we met at the MLP Fair this past summer (I had a sales table).  Maybe we met at BroNYCon (I'm the logo designer).  Maybe we did transactions and swaps at the TP.  Maybe we've never met at all (in which case, I heartily extend my hand to you in greeting)!

Past encounters aside, I've finally joined the Arena because I have a large chunk of a collection to sell.  I'm moving to Japan in early March, so I have to move as many ponies out of my house as quickly as humanly possible!  Obviously, I would prefer they go to other collectors, so stay tuned for sales posts in the near future!  I'll be clearing out some anime/manga paraphernalia as well, so if you like Cardcaptor Sakura, Fruits Basket, and/or Pokemon, I'm the girl to watch!

Outside of worrying about clearing out my house in time for the move, I enjoy doing art, design, and basic pony customization.  I'm fluent in Japanese with a healthy interest in the culture, and would happily eat pork modern-yaki (Osaka-style okonomiyaki with noodles) every day until I die.  My guilty pleasures include marathoning cartoons and taking afternoon showers. My current 5-year plan is to get my JLPT N2 certification after a year of intensive study, attend a Japanese design school, and land a position in the design sector of an international toy company.  Not your average life path I suppose, but I've never been one to do things the easy way!

So that's me I guess...kind of bare-bones if you think about it, but introductions have never been my forte.  See you around the Arena, and thanks for reading! :D

Welcome to the Arena, CheerSong!!  :)  I don't often visit the TP, so we haven't met before.  But I love your avatar!  Did you draw it?  You should come check out the art forum if you have a chance, we'd love to see your work.

Heya! Glad to have you aboard!

I'd love to just visit somewhere outside of my hometown. What part of Japan are you moving to?

Hi there!  I'm brand new to the forums.

Fluent in Japanese?  That's awesome.  I speak it as well, but have never lived there.  That is amazingly exciting!

Good luck with the pursuit of your dreams; sounds amazing!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes and well wishes!

ZennaBug, my avatar is a modified vector trace (which I do for fun) based on a screenshot of Rainbow Dash from the show.  I made a post over in the art forum showcasing some of my most recent work, and more can be found on my deviantART page.

Baby Rainbou, I recognize your name from the TP!  Assuming my visa application pans out, I'll be moving to Wakayama city in Wakayama Prefecture, which is near Osaka in the western Kansai region of Japan.  I've previously spent a year in Tokyo, but have loved Kansai the two times I've visited in the past, so I'm excited to live somewhere new!

Sourdough Stomper, that obnoxiously cheeky pony in my avatar is my ponysona Cheer Song.  She's ridiculously optimistic and is always happy to help and encourage other ponies, but like Applejack, she doesn't always know when to accept help herself.  She's not a cheerleader in the western sense, though - she does traditional Ouendan cheer, just like me!  I figure she's Ponyville's squad leader, but doesn't have many (if any) members following her because Ouendan isn't quite as popular as it used to be.  (I should really finish the picture I started of her in the summer.)

Now to get cracking on listing those ponies!

Welcome, Cheersong

I learnt a bit about Japenese culture at highschool and although I didn't pick it up as a formal subject I found it really interesting. My friend taught english in Japan for a number of years too.  I hope you enjoy being part of the forum :frolic:

Thanks Diamond!  The art in my signature is actually a combination of pony pieces from General Zoi's pony generator, a vector trace of some Rainbow Dash promotional art, and a few modifications (cutie marks, patterns, etc.) I made in Photoshop and Illustrator.  So, I can't really take full credit for it!
