Interesting question regarding FF ponies
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:19:56 PM »
So here is a question for you -

Do FF ponies have the same year on their feet as their CF counterparts (For example FF Blossom vs CF Blossom)? I would suspect the years would be different as the molds are different, but I've never thought about it until now ;)

Can anyone confirm or reject this for me?

That pose seems to have been re-sculpted a few times. But, always was still stamped with 82'

FF
2ndWide hoof
3rdLong skinny leg (I see peachy's and lemon drops most often like this)
4th (not as wide at base of feet as first)
5 Swirly Sculpt

Compare a later issue MO collector pony (more vibrant colours), to an older one (duller colours). You'll notice differences in the legs especially.

Yeah, all the same date. Give me a bit I'll get a photo.... Looks like I'll have to dig a few out to show what I mean. The legs are definitely different between them. I don't know if I kept any long legged versions (thought they were ugly.). But I think I have an earlier issue, and later issue to compare.

Edit to add:
These are all I have access to here. :( The only ponies I have on me are recent buys. Hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about.
1) Lemon Drop - Later issue Pat Pend removed, 1982, China stamp
2) Bluebelle - Later MO issue- 1982 Hong Kong
3) FF Bluebelle - 1982 Hong Kong

The skinny legged ones (Peachy) I've seen were only stamped on two feet if I remember correctly. The ones I found had horrible hair. seemed sloppily rooted, and pitch straight. refused to go to that nice bob. And I could have sworn there are also CP ponies with narrower legs.... I remember being super picky putting together my sets so that the eyepaint matched from pony to pony. Only to be frustrated that some had slightly different bodies.

So here is another question then - are all FF ponies Made in Hong Kong? Or were they made in China as well?

The others should all be Hong Kong. That China stamp LD is from the MO playset ponies. :)

So the FF ponies say Hong Kong, do all of the collector pose CF ponies say Hong Kong too? Or are they China?

If they are China, then there will be an easy way to tell the 2 apart when looking just at a description. But if they both say Hong Kong, that does not help in the search for FF ponies ;)

Just to help clearify Firefly

Issue I, FF pony, all original 6, HK
Peachy is also released as FF

---
Issue II, CF pony, redesigned (because FF easily tips over), all original 6, HK

---
Issue II, CF pony Cotton Candy and Blossom, sold in the set with Seashell, Applejack, etc, HK
Lemondrop and Peachy have a slightly diffrent pose, only front two hooves stamped, HK

---
Issue III, MO set, more vibrant colors then issue II, all original 6, HK

---
Issue IIII, Swirly Whirly, HK or china

---
Issue V, China stamp instead of HK, only lemon drop and peachy sport this stamp

Is this a good summary Firefly? Feel free to modify it ;)

Yes, except peachy. Don't know about her. As far as I know it's just the lemon drop (from the MO set with pink sprinkles, majesty, etc) that is stamped China.

Well that blows my idea that you might be able to distinguish between FF and CF with the years and made in stamps on their feet.

Oh Hasbro, why did you have to produce the CF and FF both in HK in the same year? :P
