To open the box, or not to open the box, that is the question!
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:32:13 PM »
So I recently started collecting the G4 ponies and I'm so torn over whether or not to leave them in the box. Sure they would be mint in the box that way BUT how fun would it be to take them out of the box and sit them on a shelf to display! Especially since I dunno if I would really ever sell them but who knows!?

What are your thoughts on whether or not to debox a pony?

I have only purchased two, but they were both torn out of their box as soon as I got them home :) let them out - brush their hair, let them breathe! Theyre your ponies, so enjoy them :D

I always debox mine. :x  It's just more fun to have them displayed on the shelf with all my other ponies deboxed! Plus, I'm running out of room as it is, so deboxing is the only way I can store them. I do keep the back cards on the boxes plus the little cardboard thingies in a baggie with their accessories and pets though. :)

^This. There is just no room for them all in box! That and I feel that if I bought it in the store I can debox because if I do feel the need to have one MIB I can always go buy another. I love that feeling you get when you open one up, it's like being a kid again... like I got a little present for myself :)

Debox simply because I can brush their hair and take pictures of them doing silly things.

I debox them so I can give them huggles C:

It's just too hard to give a proper pony huggle through all that cardboard and plastic!

OPEN!!!!  *Did I just say that outloud?!**  Oh hun, ponies were meant to be loved and played with, so unless they are 1 of a kind nirvana ponies, I say free them from their plastic prisons!!  (Just my opinion)

I vote for opening them! Ponies are for playing with. You know they'll feel unloved if you don't.

I personally tend to keep my G4s MIB just because they display very nicely and I'm considering selling them later in the event that I would want to. At the end of the day though, they're YOUR ponies, and if you want to set them free, I don't think anyone will care.

I'm sure whichever decision you make will be the bet. :)

I agree. I keep all of mine MIB as well, unless I get a double somehow, and then I set them free!! But they're your ponies.... do what makes you happy!! :)

I vote debox! They're more fun to play with that way, they display nice and take up a lot less room. Whatever works best for you though! :)

I haven't ever regretted deboxing a pony. With the new G4's I debox. I want to brush their hair, touch the accessories. Guess I'm a big kid. ;) Now if it were a Nirvana pony, I wouldn't debox because I buy those for their value, etc and it's a given that their value goes down a lot.

I deboxed my G4s immediately  :)  There are enough collectors keeping theirs MIB that I don't expect the standard ones to really become all that valuable.  It's just like being a kid again, without damaging vintage collectables  XD  I just don't think MIB is that fun.
