Rit Dye Remover
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:34:14 PM »
I'm sure this has been asked before but with the search function not working on the old site I can't pull up the threads

Does the Rit Dye Remover work at all on the body of a pony? I dyed one and now I kinda need her un-dyed, at least to an extent.

as far as I know, no. Works great on fabric, not so much on plastic.

It would be great if it did, I've lost a few ponies to horrible dye jobs. If you rub acetone on them, it lightens the colour a little bit. It's hard to get it even though:(

Acetone has been known to remove dye to an extent.... I've made the mistake with several ponies on that :|
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Yeah, I was able to get some off with acetone. Since it's black it just kept coming and coming with not much change to the color. She got a FBR today and is looking much better but oddly patchy. Not sure if the dye is soaking through and making her look mottled or what the deal is. Maybe I should have soaked her in acetone before painting her to pull more of the dye out.

I would guess the dye probably is bleeding through a bit. Unfortunately, that tends to happen. Especially with black or other dark colors. It's useful to boil the pony in a pot of plain water to get rid of excess dye.

Just updating to add I used the Rit Dye Remover after getting the paint off and it lightened her up from black to a slate blue. I was able to dye her purple after that and she came out pretty even considering all I've put her through, lol.
