This is a very basic tutorial. I may make a more complex one in the future. Smile Also, forgive me if I don't make sense, I'm not so good at explaining things. Smile

Thanks for saying so, everyone. Smile

Okay, here's another few steps about horns and wings, typical MLP adoptable requirements. Wink
There are two basic approaches I can think of. One, you can have a separate file/template for each species that you need. Saves you from worrying about layers.

The second one is using separate layers for the wing(s) and the horn. Saves you from needing several files. Laugh

Either%20case,%20let's%20get%20started.%20This%20could%20be%20either%20your%20unicorn%20file%20or%20layer.%20(And%20by%20the%20way,%20I%20forgot%20to%20mention%20it,%20but%20don't%20worry%20about%20the%20%20blue%20checkerboard%20background.%20That's%20just%20PSP's%20way%20of%20saying%20that%20area%20is%20transparent). You%20use%20the%20pen%20tool%20to%20draw%20in%20a%20horn,%20basically.%20If%20you%20want%20to%20make%20it%20simple%20on%20yourself,%20just%20make%20it%20a%20triangle%20with%20maybe%20a%20rounded%20tip.%20I%20use%20the%20same%20color%20outline%20as%20I%20used%20for%20the%20body. Then%20fill%20in%20the%20lines%20with%20the%20appropriate%20color.%20Yes,%20feel%20free%20to%20color%20over%20some%20of%20the%20lines%20of%20the%20hair,%20to%20make%20it%20look%20like%20it's%20coming%20through%20the%20locks%20of%20hair. Then%20I%20started%20on%20a%20wing%20layer%20(or%20file).%20You%20can%20ignore%20the%20horn's%20presence%20in%20this%20picture%20if%20you%20like,%20because%20it%20is%20on%20a%20different%20layer%20and%20can%20even%20be%20put%20into%20hidden%20mode. Drawing%20wings%20is%20a%20little%20more%20complicated.%20I%20suppose%20you%20could%20use%20a%20guide%20or%20just%20keep%20it%20simple.%20Whatever%20you%20feel%20you%20can%20handle.%20 My%20own%20method%20is%20to%20find%20an%20MLP%20drawing%20or%20picture%20of%20a%20pegasus,%20shrink%20it%20down%20to%20the%20right%20size%20and%20tracing%20over%20it.%20Then%20transferring%20the%20tracing%20to%20my%20adoptable.%20Complicated,%20I%20know.%20:lookround: I%20forgot%20to%20take%20a%20screen%20shot,%20but%20the%20wing%20gets%20filled%20in,%20too.%20

Here's a screen shot of what the layers kind of look like.

Since I use the layer method, I can either show or hide the wing/horn layer when called for. If I'm making Twilight, I show the horn layer and hide the wing layer. I have to take another couple steps to color the horn the right color, as shown in my first post. But it's not a big deal.

The next post I make in this thread will involve shading. Boy, is it getting dark in here and rumbly outside. *eyes impending thunderstorm warily*

I wouldn't know, but I believe you. Happy *huggles Paint Shop Pro 8*

Okay, here is the shading segment of the tutorial. The amount and style of shading is totally up to the maker. If you need inspiration as to where the shadows go and the light areas go, take one of your plastic ponies and hold it near a light for ideas.

It can be a simple or as complicated as you feel comfortable with. More complex might be more visually appealing (or at least I think so), but it's also more time consuming.

That's a very key phrase with pixel adoptables - time consuming. Laugh

That basically covers how to make a pixel adoptable. If you like layers, you can make squiggly lines over the pony's feet and have a "boy pony" layer. I have the ribbon on a separate layer and I can take it off if I wanted to make a boy pony.

Good luck with all your adoptable making. If you are dying for more tips and instructions, you could probably find a million tutorials in places like DeviantArt. The sky's the limit.

Would you all like me to sticky this thread? I can even make the template available so everyone can practice transforming them into different colors. Smile

I'm simply re-shading it right now. Smile
