I think you did a great job on her Candlelight.
If anything I think you should have added either color or a different background but I seriously do like this piece.
Keep up the great work!

PD

You know I'm all for creative processes, but you really should have tried to copy a less popular artist, and not make it quite as blatant.

Here is the actual pic: elfwood.lysator.liu.se...y.jpg.html

This is just wrong unless you have her permission to COPY her picture.

It's not a good idea to copy another artiest artwork.
Once an Artiest has drawn their own original art work, it's Automatically copyrighted unless it's a fanart.

Fan Art can not be copyrighted.

I'd love to see your own art work, one that's not a copy of someone elses art. :-D

Copying a drawing, IMO is all part of the learning process. Some people cannot draw from imagination, only by copying, that doesn't make them less of an artist.

One who paints a tree as they're looking at it, or sketches a building does the same thing.

Asking permission first, or posting the webiste would have been a good idea. But IMO, at least you were honest about where you saw the picture, and didn't say you made it up.

And it was stated that this was her first drawing. How else does one learn?

I am not trying to start a fight, I just believe this is such a friendly board, and I think being a bit nicer never hurts. :-D

And that peice is a great likeness to the one you copied, and it's not easy to do that!!

I agree with Grumpyfirefly in that using other people's idea's and styles can be helpful when first learning to draw.( and even if you are an established artist :-D )

I don't condone copying others and claiming it to be your own. But she did state it was from another site, and that it was a clone. Plus she did re-draw the picture.

Don't worry Candlelight now you know just mail the artist and ask if they mind :-D , everyones really nice so I'm sure they'll help you out as much as posible, maybe they could tell you where they get there influence's from Smile

The picture is a very good copy, you are obviously very talented :-D
I hope you post some more pics soon :-D

I've been practicing using Kagome's "tink a tink a too" that she's been bringing w/ her to school...it's a big help, but they end up looking less anime-like and more like the toy...^^;; Lol

I'm very sorry for doing that, i didn't know  I changed the post up there, i hope that's better, and thank you Firefly and Dollar...i really appreciate it... i did email the artist...

And you guys are right, i usually copy other art b/c i have trouble just drawing out of my mind...i'm workin gon it though, but it's not easy...

Demonkitty, i'm very sorry i didn't know...I never heard of that particular artist...

I'll only post original art from now on, i promise...I feel really bad...*sighs*

Yes, if that were true then all fanartists would have to ask the illustrator of every comic/anime/cartoon ever produced before drawing that character. And besides, it's not like you're using it for money. ^_~
